Our new building was opened by Schools Minister Jim Knight on the 12th 0f December 2008.
What Ofsted says . . . "The Pre-School is well organised to meet the needs of the children. It offers a welcoming and stimulating environment, both in and outdoors, where children can freely access resources and make choices about their play".
Our building has been designed with the needs of children at its heart at every stage. It has been built to an innovative design that is both environmentally sustainable, and an optimal environment for young children. The design is basically open-plan, with dedicated wet play, dry play, group time, quiet time, and pretend play areas. Inside the building feels light and spacious, but also colourful and cosy.
Our building was designed and built to be environmentally sensitive, for all our futures. It was made using local sustainable materials, (such as sheep’s wool insulation and wood panels), wherever possible, and is very energy efficient. High level windows provide natural light and heat, and the sedum roof soaks up both excess water and carbon dioxide.
The construction of this building was the culmination of a long project, involving both a huge amount of energy and dedication from a small group of volunteers, and a fantastic degree of support and generosity from the community we are lucky enough to call home.
This building would never have happened without the incredibly generous support we have received from numerous organisations. All families in the village owe a huge debt of gratitude to our major donors:
- Corfe Castle Charity
- Dorset County Council
- Talbot Village Trust
- Valentine Trust
- Purbeck Community Partnership
- Wareham and District Development Trust
- Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Sustainability Fund
- Corfe Castle Methodist Church
We are also hugely grateful to the village businesses and individuals who have supported us not just in this campaign, but tirelessly since our inception. We are very lucky to be part of a community that so selflessly works and donates for the future of all its children.
